Maryland Statistical Analysis Center FY 2012 State Justice Statistics Program

The State Justice Statistics (SJS) Program is designed to maintain and enhance each state's capacity to address criminal justice issues through collection and analysis of data. The SJS Program provides support to each state to coordinate and conduct statistical activities within the state, conduct research to estimate impacts of legislative and policy changes, and serve as a liaison in assisting BJS to gather data from respondent agencies within their states.

The Maryland Statistical Analysis Center (SAC) will use SJS funds to conduct a variety of tasks related to the following research projects: 1) collect and submit data to BJS on arrest-related deaths; 2) enhance the SAC website to include updated UCR data, additional research and legislative reports, and links to other criminal justice resources; 3) conduct a longitudinal study to track statewide recidivism statistics; 4) assist state agencies with the development and improvement of relevant performance measures; 5) provide support with domestic violence research, program, and policy analysis; and 6) complete ad-hoc reports on priority criminal justice issues that emerge during the project period.

The Maryland Statistical Analysis Center (SAC) will use SJS funds to conduct a variety of tasks related to the following research projects: 1) collect and submit data to BJS on arrest-related deaths; 2) enhance the SAC website to include updated UCR data, additional research and legislative reports, and links to other criminal justice resources; 3) collaborate with stakeholders to develop a uniform strategy to better track, measure, and conduct research on human trafficking incidents throughout the state; 4) assist state agencies with the development and improvement of relevant performance measures to inform data-drive decisions; 5) provide mapping support to examine the differences in services for victims of domestic violence and/or stalking and provide support with domestic violence research, program, and policy analysis; and 6) complete analyses and reports on priority criminal justice issues that emerge during the project period, including an evaluation of Maryland's Division of Parole & Probation's Violence Prevention Initiative and the development of a risk assessment screening tool to identify parents and caregivers who have an increased risk of committing serious harm and/or murdering their children.
