South Carolina State Justice Statistics Program

The State Justice Statistics (SJS) Program is designed to maintain and enhance each state's capacity to address criminal justice issues through collection and analysis of data. The SJS Program provides support to each state to coordinate and conduct statistical activities within the state, conduct research to estimate impacts of legislative and policy changes, and serve as a liaison in assisting BJS to gather data from respondent agencies within their states.
The South Carolina Statistical Analysis Center located within the South Carolina Department of Public Safety will conduct the following activities: (1) Publish the comprehensive annual report "South Carolina Criminal and Juvenile Justice Trends;" (2) Update with current trend data two South Carolina Incident-Based Reporting System (SCIBRS) five-year trend reports on domestic violence and sexual violence; (3) Continue to serve as a point of contact for the Deaths in Custody data collection; (4) Update and expand the SAC website; (5) Facilitate and partially support a State Institutional Review Board (IRB) to review any research projects that involve human subjects or identifiable data elements relating to human subjects; and (6) Conduct analyses on SCIBRS and state Computerized Criminal History (CCH) records to assess the impact of enhanced sanctions for domestic violence.
