Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2007, $50,000)

The State Justice Statistics (SJS) Program is designed to maintain and enhance each State's capacity to address criminal justice issues through collection and analysis of data. The SJS Program provides support to each State to coordinate and conduct statistical activities within the State, conduct research to estimate impacts of legislative and policy changes, and serve as a liaison in assisting BJS to gather data from respondent agencies within their States.

Under this SJS grant, the Minnesota Statistical Analysis Center (SAC), which is housed in the Office of Justice Programs within the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, will be conducting the following projects: (1) increase web access to data by creating an interactive web-based criminal justice portal that will allow stakeholders to access criminal justice data on a statewide and county level; (2) produce a comprehensive report for the Minnesota state legislature on human trafficking in the state that covers labor and sexual exploitation issues, international and domestic; and (3) produce a series of juvenile justice fact sheets to inform statewide policy makers on the status of youth in Minnesota.
