Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2010, $70,000)
The State Justice Statistics (SJS) Program is designed to maintain and enhance each state's capacity to address criminal justice issues through collection and analysis of data. The SJS Program provides support to each state to coordinate and conduct statistical activities within the state, conduct research to estimate impacts of legislative and policy changes, and serve as a liaison in assisting BJS to gather data from respondent agencies within their states.
Under this award, the Vermont Statistical Analysis Center (SAC) will use funds to conduct research using NIBRS data, state criminal histories, and court data to develop for the first time a typology of sexual assault offenders in Vermont. This research will be used to inform policy makers on correctional and relief programs and sentencing practices for sexual assault cases. In addition, a recidivism study will be conducted on those convicted in 2004 to include analyses of individuals receiving treatment while incarcerated at the Vermont Department of Corrections. This evaluation will examine the impact of various sexual violence legislation. CA/NCF
