Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $49,999)

The State Justice Statistics (SJS) Program is designed to maintain and enhance each State's capacity to address criminal justice issues through collection and analysis of data. The SJS Program provides support to each State to coordinate and conduct statistical activities within the state, conduct research to estimate impacts of legislative and policy changes, and serve as a liaison in assisting BJS to gather data from respondent agencies within their States.

Under this award, the New Hampshire Statistical Analysis Center (SAC) will work with a research organization to conduct studies using incident-based crime data that are compatible with the National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS). The contractor will thoroughly research how NIBRS is being utilized in New Hampshire and explore methods that would enable the state to increase the number of NIBRS-reporting entities. This process will result in a better understanding of the amount and type of crime statistics available for analysis and give the Attorney General and the Crime Commission a clearer understanding of what crime statistics are currently available and how to improve those statistics.
