Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $149,130)

The Indiana SAC is seeking funding for a Core Capacity-Building Project under focus area C: Increasing Access to Statistical Data. This proposed two-year project seeks to increase access to crime data on Indiana Criminal Justice Institute's website using Tableau to create interactive visualizations that will allow users to explore crime statistics, such as crime rates, Indiana census data, arrest rates, clearance rates, and county-level statistics over the last five years using National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS) crime data. For example, users would be able to examine the rate of aggravated assaults over time in a county in comparison to other counties in the state. Additionally, this project will identify patterns and trends in crime data.  Topical factsheets will be prepared that will provide an overview of the data and highlight key trends on to-be-determined topics but may include the use of weapons, the prevalence of specific offenses, geographical distribution, or the effects of COVID-19 on crime patterns.
