The State Justice Statistics (SJS) Program is designed to maintain and enhance each State's capacity to address criminal justice issues through the collection and analysis of data. The SJS Program provides support to each State to coordinate and conduct statistical activities within the State, conduct research to estimate impacts of legislative and policy changes, and serve as a liaison in assisting BJS to gather data from respondent agencies within their States.

Under this award, the Nebraska SAC will: 1) continue reporting to BJS on deaths in police custody by collecting statewide data on deaths occurring in the process of arrest or in the pursuit of arrest; 2) collect data and analyze the impact of substance abuse on State and local criminal justice and public health systems; 3) continue to study and report on motor vehicle traffic stops in the State and any potential racial profiling to address the concerns of the Nebraska Legislature; and 4) increase web access to data by adding data for internet queries.
