Statistics on victims, offenders, crime characteristics, and police reporting are provided. The data are based on findings from a continuous survey of a representative sample of housing units across the country, containing about 123,000 individuals The following offenses are examined: the crimes against persons of rape, robbery, assault, and personal larceny and the crimes against households of burglary, larceny, and motor vehicle theft. Selected findings from 105 statistical tables are presented, together with charts, graphs, and explanatory information. Appendixes contain the survey methodology facsimiles of the survey questionnaire, and a glossary. To aid in the interpretation of survey results, data for this report were collected, processed, and analyzed by the U.S. Bureau of the Census.
