Description
The Law Enforcement Core Statistics Program (LECS) focuses on the organizational characteristics of law enforcement agencies (LEAs). The goal of the program is to provide accurate and timely national statistics about the personnel, operations, policies, and procedures of state, local, and tribal LEAs in the United States. Originally awarded in FY 2015, the LECS includes three of BJS’s core law enforcement collections: Law Enforcement Management and Administrative Statistics core survey, Census of Law Enforcement Training Academies (CLETA) and the Census of State and Local Law Enforcement Agencies (CSLLEA). Funding to support continued activities under the LECS will include expanded data quality follow-up for the 2018 CSLLEA, data quality and nonresponse follow-up for additional CLETA cases, and adding U.S. Census Bureau population to the 2018 CSLLEA dataset.
