The purpose of the State Justice Statistics Program for Statistical Analysis Centers Technical Assistance (SJS-SACTA) Program is to support the goals and objectives of the Bureau of Justice Statistics' (BJS) State Justice Statistics Program, and provide direct technical assistance and training to statistical analysis centers to enhance their statistical, research, and organizational capabilities.

To meet the goals and objectives of the SJS-SACTA program, the Justice Research and Statistics Association (JRSA) is proposing to accomplish the following: 1) building statistical capacity in, and improving the quality of the deliverables produced by, state SACs; 2) providing technical assistance and editorial assistance to the SACs; 3) developing and maintaining a mutual assistance program for SACs; 4) maintaining a database of organizational activities, research projects, and publications; providing information to SACs on IRBs; 5) publishing materials and disseminating information to the SACs; 6) designing and providing skill-building professional seminars and conferences for the SACs; and 7) providing orientation for new SAC directors. JRSA has recently expanded and enhanced its member committees to further meet the goals and objectives of the program. The new member committees consist of 52 academics and practitioners representing 28 SACs across the country.

JRSA has developed a model for providing training and technical assistance to the SACs that includes: 1) developing a working definition of SAC capacity; 2) developing training and technical assistance system to meet the requirements of the definition; and 3) developing performance metrics to assess improvements in SAC capacity.
