Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2011, $375,000)
The goal of the National Criminal History Improvement Program (NCHIP) is to improve the Nation's safety and security by enhancing the quality, completeness, and accessibility of criminal history record information and by insuring the nationwide implementation of criminal justice and non-criminal justice background check systems. BJS provides direct financial and technical assistance to the states to improve criminal history and other related records and to build their infrastructure to connect to national record check systems both to supply information and to conduct the requisite checks.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) will continue to work with the Office of State Courts Administrator (OSCA), the Missouri Office of Prosecution Services (MOPS), and the Missouri Police Chiefs Association (MPCA) to implement improved criminal history record capture procedures in Missouri courts, prosecutors' offices, corrections, and law enforcement agencies. Funds will be used to establish an interface between the prosecutor's case management system and local law enforcement agencies' legacy systems for transmitting arrest/referral data. In addition, plans are underway to purchase livescan devices to interface with the state's Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) and to create an interface between the Justice Information System and the state criminal history repository.
