Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2011, $499,601)

This will be a 12 month cooperative agreement. The proposed project will provide technical assistance to states under the National Criminal History Improvement Program (NCHIP) and the NICS Act Record Improvement Program (NARIP) to enhance and improvement criminal history systems and related records.

Technical assistance provided under this award includes direct on-site visits, telephone services, focus groups and meetings, a national conference of state repositories and court administrators, and data collection and publication of criminal history related surveys and materials. Technical assistance will be directed toward helping state policymakers and criminal justice information managers respond to emerging national trends in technology, as well as law and policy mandates at the federal, state, and local levels. The activities supported by this award are directed at responding to the changing nature of criminal justice information systems and the policy environment to improve the management, exchange, and data quality of criminal justice information that is in increasing demand in shared information environments.
