Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2011, $58,115)

The State Justice Statistics (SJS) Program is designed to maintain and enhance each state's capacity to address criminal justice issues through collection and analysis of data. The SJS Program provides support to each state to coordinate and conduct statistical activities within the state, conduct research to estimate impacts of legislative and policy changes, and serve as a liaison in assisting BJS to gather data from respondent agencies within their states.

Under this award, the Tennessee Statistical Analysis Center (SAC) plans to continue the enhancements to the SAC website with the expansion of incident-based data to the Tennessee Crime On-line section. The project will include modifying jurisdiction dimension information and contracting with Beyond 20/20 to build a tool to allow the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) easier maintenance of data in the reference file. Funds will also be used to expand the NIBRS codes for property and location in the Tennessee Incident-Based Reporting System (TIBRS). The additional data codes and edits will conform to the national standard developed by the FBI and allow for more specific location types including a more detailed breakout of school types and public property types.
