Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2011, $50,000)

The State Justice Statistics (SJS) Program is designed to maintain and enhance each state's capacity to address criminal justice issues through collection and analysis of data. The SJS Program provides support to each state to coordinate and conduct statistical activities within the state, conduct research to estimate impacts of legislative and policy changes, and serve as a liaison in assisting BJS to gather data from respondent agencies within their states.

The Statistical Analysis Center (SAC) program is administered through the New Jersey Department of Law and Public Safety, Division of Criminal Justice, Research and Evaluation Section. With funds from the 2011 State Justice Statistics (SJS) Program, staff from the Data Analysis Center will continue to utilize Promis/Gavel and Computerized Criminal History (CCH) records to meet the policy needs of the criminal justice community by providing data to law enforcement, prosecutors, the judiciary, corrections, and the legislature. Activities include: (1) providing recidivism data to the Department of Corrections and the Juvenile Justice Commission; and, (2) operating as a clearinghouse for criminal justice information.
