2009 Mississippi State Justice Statistics Program
Note:
This awardee has received supplemental funding. This award detail page includes information about both the original award and supplemental awards.
The State Justice Statistics (SJS) Program is designed to maintain and enhance each state's capacity to address criminal justice issues through collection and analysis of data. The SJS Program provides support to each state to coordinate and conduct statistical activities within the state, conduct research to estimate impacts of legislative and policy changes, and serve as a liaison in assisting BJS to gather data from respondent agencies within their states.
The Mississippi Statistical Analysis Center (SAC), at the School of Criminal Justice of the University of Mississippi, will continue to conduct research to improve the effectiveness of the criminal justice system in Mississippi. The SAC proposes to gather empirical information on domestic violence and stalking offenses in Mississippi to assist policymakers, state agencies, law enforcement agents and local shelters in determining what resources are needed to effectively assist victims and support operations. This will fill an important gap in knowledge that currently exists and allow for detailed qualitative analysis of individual cases as well as quantitative trend analyses for use to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the state's criminal justice system.
