The State Justice Statistics (SJS) Program is designed to maintain and enhance each State's capacity to address criminal justice issues through collection and analysis of data. The SJS Program provides support to each State to coordinate and conduct statistical activities within the State, conduct research to estimate impacts of legislative and policy changes, and serve as a liaison in assisting BJS to gather data from respondent agencies within their States.
Under this award, the Minnesota Statistical Analysis Center (SAC), housed in the Office of Justice Programs within the MN Department of Public Safety, will: (1) increase web access to data by creating an interactive web-based criminal justice portal that will allow stakeholders to access criminal justice data on a statewide and county level; (2) conduct a statewide victimization study; (3) produce a third comprehensive report for the state legislature on human trafficking in the state that covers international and domestic labor and sexual exploitation issues; (4) continue to work with the Department of Education to produce a series of juvenile fact sheets entitled, 'Snapshots on Minnesota Youth;' (5) complete a report about the experiences of youth in correctional educational settings; and (6) work with the Minnesota Crime Victim's Justice Unit to complete an on-line survey of city and county prosecutors' attitudes toward and compliance with the MN crime victims' rights statute.
