The SJS Program provides support to each State to coordinate and conduct statistical activities within the State, conduct research to estimate impacts of legislative and policy changes, and serve as a liaison in assisting BJS to gather data from respondent agencies within their States.

The New Mexico SAC will continue work on its Domestic Violence Orders of Protection (DVOP) study. The SAC will evaluate a sample of domestic violence cases to determine whether protective orders play a part in deterring future incidents of domestic violence. Research findings will assist local, state, and national efforts to more effectively utilize protective orders to reduce domestic violence.
