Explore findings on homicide victimization

BJS released Homicide Victimization in the United States, 2023. This report describes the number and rate of homicide victimizations reported by law enforcement agencies in the United States, including victim demographic characteristics, victim-offender relationships, the type of weapon(s) present, and the number of victims involved in the incident. 

Findings in this report are based on BJS's and the FBI’s National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS) Estimation Program for 2021 to 2023 and the FBI’s Supplementary Homicide Reports (SHR).

New report sheds light on gun deaths among children

BJS released Firearm-Involved Homicide of Children Age 11 or Younger, 2014–2023. This Just the Stats report presents data on child homicides (i.e., murder or nonnegligent manslaughter of a victim age 11 or younger) and compares it with data on child homicides involving firearms.

Census of Law Enforcement Training Academies, 2022

BJS released the Census of Law Enforcement Training Academies, 2022. Data were from all state and local law enforcement academies that provided basic training. These academies were operated by state, regional, county and municipal agencies and by universities, colleges, and technical schools. As part of the 2022 CLETA, respondents provided general information about the academies' resources, programs, recruits and staff. The core curricula subject areas and hours dedicated to each topic, as well as training offered in some special topics, were also included.

BJS unveils redesigned Parole Dashboard

The Parole Dashboard is a data analysis tool that allows users to examine data BJS collects through the Annual Parole Survey on adults under parole supervision with data available starting from 1994. Use this tool to create tables and updated visualizations, including a map view of total population and state-level detailed data analysis.

The redesigned Probation Dashboard is a data analysis tool that allows users to examine data BJS collects through the Annual Probation Survey on adults under probation supervision. Use this tool to create tables and visualizations, including a map view of total population and state-level detailed data analysis.

NIBRS National Estimates API

BJS released the 2023 National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS) National Estimates. The datasets and related codebooks are available through an Application Programming Interface (API). The NIBRS National Estimates API includes nationally representative data at the incident, offense, and victim levels for crime reported by law enforcement.
