BJS FY 2026 Consolidated National Criminal History Improvement Program (NCHIP)
This opportunity seeks to provide grants to assist states, state court systems, territories, and federally recognized tribes under the NCHIP, the NCHIP Supplemental Funding under the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, and the National Instant Criminal Background Check System Act Record Improvement Program. Funds are used to improve the accuracy, utility, and interstate accessibility of criminal history and related records in support of national record systems and their use for name- and fingerprint-based criminal history background checks.
BJS FY 2026 National Criminal History Improvement Program Training and Technical Assistance Program
This opportunity funds training and technical assistance to support activities under the NCHIP, the National Instant Criminal Background Check System Act Record Improvement Program, and portions of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act (P.L. 117–159). Direct technical assistance is provided to states, territories, and tribal jurisdictions to ensure that record systems are developed and managed to conform to FBI standards, ensure jurisdictions are using the most appropriate technologies, and adhere to the highest standards of practice with respect to privacy and confidentiality.
BJS FY 2026 National Incident-Based Reporting System Estimation Program (NIBRS EP)
This opportunity is for continued maintenance and development of statistical protocols and procedures required to produce national estimates of crime and arrest based on data from the FBI’s NIBRS collection. The NIBRS EP is a multiphase, large-scale data quality, nonresponse, and estimation project through which BJS develops and tests statistical procedures that assess the quality and completeness of the submitted NIBRS data, adjust for item and unit nonresponse, and generate national incident-based statistics from the reported data.
BJS FY 2026 Annual Surveys of Probation and Parole (ASPP), 2026–2030
This opportunity seeks a data collection and analysis agent to conduct the collection, analysis, and dissemination activities for the ASPP for the data years 2026 through 2030. The ASPP are two separate data collections, independently referred to as the Annual Probation Survey and Annual Parole Survey. The ASPP are core BJS data collections and are the only national data collections that describe the size, change, movements, outcomes, and characteristics of the community supervision populations at the national, federal, and state levels.
BJS FY 2026 Criminal History Record Assessment and Research Program (CHRARP)
This opportunity will be used to convert state- and federal-specific fields in criminal history records into research datasets with standardized codes that support statistical analysis and provide support with multiple recidivism statistics and research projects.
BJS FY 2026 State Justice Statistics (SJS) Program for Statistical Analysis Centers (SAC)
This opportunity will concentrate on building the core capacities of states’ SACs and improving the sharing of state-level information nationally. SACs applying for funds may choose a Core Capacity-Building project focusing on enhancing or building access to new sources of data and improving analytic capability, rather than maintaining current efforts. Funds may also be used to support a specific Special Emphasis Capacity Building project from one of the program areas listed in the funding opportunity.
