BJS report presents 2024 probation and parole population statistics 

BJS released Probation and Parole in the United States, 2024. This report presents the characteristics of the U.S. community supervision population such as sex, race or ethnicity, and most serious offense. It also provides statistics on movements onto and off community supervision and details types of exits, such as completing one’s term of supervision, being incarcerated, absconding, or other unsatisfactory outcomes while in the community. 

This report is the 33rd in a series that began in 1981. Findings are based on data from BJS's Annual Probation Survey and Annual Parole Survey.

Survey of Campus Law Enforcement Agencies, 2021-2022

BJS updated the 2021–2022 dataset for the Survey of Campus Law Enforcement Agencies (SCLEA), which can be accessed through the National Archive of Criminal Justice Data. The SCLEA collects data on various aspects of campus law enforcement agencies, including staffing, functions, technology and communication, training, equipment, and techniques. The survey includes campus law enforcement agencies serving institutions funded by both public and private sources. The update added the college/university name and ID number from the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System to the dataset.

National Prisoner Statistics (NPS) Program 1978–2023 

BJS released public-use data files collected through the National Prisoner Statistics (NPS) program from 1978–2023. The NPS provides an enumeration of persons in state and federal prisons and collects data on key characteristics of the nation's prison population.
