Description

This Just the Stats report presents national estimates of violent victimizations involving firearms in the United States for 2023 and 2024, based on data reported by law enforcement agencies. These national estimates are generated through the Bureau of Justice Statistics’ and FBI’s National Incident-Based Reporting System Estimation Program.

Highlights

• In 2024, the total rate of firearm victimization was 117.4 per 100,000 persons—a decline from a rate of 133.4 reported in 2023.
• From 2023 to 2024, the firearm homicide victimization rate decreased from 4.6 per 100,000 to 3.8.
• The estimated number of total violent victimizations committed with a firearm fell from 446,700 in 2023 to 399,220 in 2024.
• Robbery victimizations with a firearm declined from 100,830 in 2023 to 84,920 in 2024.
