This report describes various density statistics for local jails in 1988.
Abstract
Statistics that are provided include number of occupiable spaces, number of inmates jailed that year, average square footage available to each inmate, and the average number of inmates per unit. The census asked every U.S. jail about its facility, staff, and the characteristics of its inmate population. Results are compared with prior years, density figures are provided on spatial and social density, and the methodology used is detailed. 12 tables.
