FY 2022 Census of Medical Examiner and Coroner Offices

This program seeks support to conduct the 2023 Census of Medical Examiner and Coroner Offices (CMEC). This will be the third census BJS has conducted on this topic and follows the 2018 CMEC. The goal of this data collection is to obtain updated information about the operations, workload, staffing, training, policies and procedures of all publicly funded medical examiner and coroner (ME C) offices responsible for providing medicolegal death investigation (MDI). The main activities of the program include questionnaire development, frame development, fielding the census for a 2023 reference year, and delivery of raw and processed final datasets.
