The State Justice Statistics (SJS) Program is designed to maintain and enhance each state's capacity to address criminal justice issues through collection and analysis of data. The SJS Program provides support to each state to coordinate and conduct statistical activities within the state, conduct research to estimate impacts of legislative and policy changes, and serve as a liaison in assisting BJS to gather data from respondent agencies within their states.

The New York Statistical Analysis Center will use funds to carry out the following projects: (1) prepare monthly analytical reports of performance measures derived from the statewide CrimeStat program; (2) collect and analyze data on hate crimes reported by law enforcement in 2008; (3) develop a tracking instrument for every offender referred to the County Re-entry Task Force program and produce a report profiling offenders participating in the program; and (4) extract domestic violence homicide data from the Uniform Crime Report's Supplemental Homicide Reporting file and compare 2007 and 2008 findings.
