The State Justice Statistics (SJS) Program is designed to maintain and enhance each State's capacity to address criminal justice issues through collection and analysis of data. The SJS Program provides support to each State to coordinate and conduct statistical activities within the State, conduct research to estimate impacts of legislative and policy changes, and serve as a liaison in assisting BJS to gather data from respondent agencies within their States.

Under this award, the Iowa SAC will complete the following activities: 1) carry out the research necessary to develop an Iowa prison population forecasting model which will enable analysis of sentencing policies and to simulate alternative corrections futures based on specific changes in laws, policies or practices; 2) continue to maintain and update data and analytical information for state, local, and federal agencies on the SAC's website; and 3) provide timely and accurate data on deaths in custody to BJS.
