Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $50,000)
The State Justice Statistics (SJS) Program is designed to maintain and enhance each State's capacity to address criminal justice issues through collection and analysis of data. The SJS Program provides support to each State to coordinate and conduct statistical activities within the State, conduct research to estimate impacts of legislative and policy changes, and serve as a liaison in assisting BJS to gather data from respondent agencies within their States.
Under this award, the Colorado Statistical Analysis (SAC) Center will continue the collection of data for the Deaths in Custody study and provide the information to BJS on an annual basis. The SAC Director will continue to participate on the Department of Correction's Prison Rape Elimination Committee, developing research tools and providing insight on rapes occurring in Colorado jails and juvenile facilities. Additionally, funds will be used to produce the SAC's criminal justice newsletter, "Elements of Change."
