The State Justice Statistics (SJS) Program is designed to maintain and enhance each state's capacity to address criminal justice issues through collection and analysis of data. The SJS Program provides support to each state to coordinate and conduct statistical activities within the state, conduct research to estimate impacts of legislative and policy changes, and serve as a liaison in assisting BJS to gather data from respondent agencies within their states.
The Maryland Statistical Analysis Center (MSAC) was established within the Governor's Office of Crime Control & Prevention (GOCCP) on March 26, 2007 through Executive Order (01.01.2007.05). This order provides for a State Statistical Analysis Center (SAC) to support the purposes of collecting and analyzing statewide criminal justice statistics.
Under this award, The MSAC will continue to carry out projects under SJS Program Themes 'Increased Web Access to Data' and 'Performance Measurements.' The MSAC will update and enhance the SAC's website to include/update the following: Maryland Quick Facts, updated UCR data, relevant GIS information and CompStat resources, additional research and legislative reports, downloaded datasets, and conference presentations. Additionally, the MSAC will use funds to collect and analyze GOCCP data to improve cross-coordination, communication, responsiveness, and strategic funding practices for internal and external evaluations.
