Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2007, $50,000)

The State Justice Statistics (SJS) Program is designed to maintain and enhance each State's capacity to address criminal justice issues through the collection and analysis of data. The SJS Program provides support to each State to coordinate and conduct statistical activities within the State, conduct research to estimate impacts of legislative and policy changes, and serve as a liaison in assisting BJS to gather data from respondent agencies within their States.

Under this award, the Connecticut SAC will: 1) obtain statewide data occurring in the process of arrest or in pursuit of arrest pursuant to the Deaths in Custody Reporting Act of 2000; 2) continue an annual study of the recidivism of prisoners released in 2003; and 3) conduct an annual prison population study as directed by the legislature.
