Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2007, $50,000)

The State Justice Statistics (SJS) Program is designed to maintain and enhance each State's capacity to address criminal justice issues through the collection and analysis of data. The SJS Program provides support to each State to coordinate and conduct statistical activities within the State, conduct research to estimate impacts of legislative and policy changes, and serve as a liaison in assisting BJS to gather data from respondent agencies within their States.

Under this award, the Maine Statistical Analysis Center (SAC) will conduct the following projects: (1) produce integrated county level data profiles to provide local practitioners and policymakers easy access to criminal justice performance measurement data and information; (2) analyze statewide and county level trends in methamphetamine abuse using criminal justice and public health data and publish findings; and (3) redesign its website to establish a data and technical assistance center for non-statisticians.
