Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2007, $58,238)
The State Justice Statistics (SJS) Program is designed to maintain and enhance each State's capacity to address criminal justice issues through collection and analysis of data. The SJS Program provides support to each State to coordinate and conduct statistical activities within the State, conduct research to estimate impacts of legislative and policy changes, and serve as a liaison in assisting BJS to gather data from respondent agencies within their States.
With this award, the Oklahoma SAC will: 1) collect and report statewide data on deaths occurring in police custody and develop formal policies and procedures for ongoing reporting to BJS; 2) improve the public web-based system by providing easy access to SAC publications, research and statistics; 3) develop and complete a publication describing felony sentencing practices and trends in the Oklahoma; and 4) develop fiscal impact statements of proposed legislation on the State's criminal justice system.
