2007 Law Enforcement Management and Administrative Statistics (LEMAS) Survey

The LEMAS Sample Survey of State and Local Law Enforcement Agencies has been conducted by BJS every 3-4 years since 1987. It is a comprehensive survey of State and local agencies employing sworn personnel with general arrest powers. The data collection provides a profile of local police departments, sheriffs' offices, and State law enforcement agencies. Data are collected on agency functions, personnel, expenditures, salaries, equipment, computers and information systems, and written policies and procedures. The resulting data file serves as a valuable tool for assessing the Nation's State and local law enforcement resources.
