Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2007, $50,000)

The State Justice Statistics (SJS) Program is designed to maintain and enhance each State's capacity to address criminal justice issues through collection and analysis of data. The SJS Program provides support to each State to coordinate and conduct statistical activities within the State, conduct research to estimate impacts of legislative and policy changes, and serve as a liaison in assisting BJS to gather data from respondent agencies within their States.

Under this award, the Tennessee Statistical Analysis Center will: (1) expand the amount and format of data available on the Tennessee Crime On-Line Website to include the 'Crime on Campus' annual crime report; (2) add crime mapping capability to the Tennessee Crime On-Line web site which will allow both the public and law enforcement agencies to generate crime maps when accessing the TIBRS online reports system; (3) produce a report based on the results of the Homicide Clearance by Weapon Type study; and (4) perform data quality cross-checks between arrests reported through the Tennessee Incident Based Reporting System (TIBRS) and arrests submitted to the Tennessee Criminal History Record (TCHR) system. The State intends to link the TIBRS to TCHR system, the State sex offender registry, and the National Crime Information Center (NCIC). These cross checks will be performed to identify missing data and/or other issues.
