Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $977,733)

Under this award, the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals requests funds for the following projects: 1) Court technical and equipment enhancements – purchase two network servers and four multipurpose switches. The servers and switches will be used in the court’s data centers to host systems that will ensure the availability of data that is directly accessible and made available to the national record systems. 2) Automate Mental Health Juvenile Justice records – hire a specialist and scanners for a 2-year period to convert paper mental health and juvenile justice files to electronic records. The Specialist will verify the scanned case files and respond to records inquiries from the NICS. The scanners will convert up to 500 mental health files to electronic records every six months.  The court equipment upgrade will provide for a better reporting system of criminal history records from the courts to state and national record systems. The current storage equipment has reached end-of-life status. The automation of mental health and juvenile records will increase the number of complete records to the state and national systems.
