Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Measures in BJS Survey Data Collections Webinar

This webinar will present information on sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI) measures within Bureau of Justice Statistics’ (BJS) survey data collections, including methodological discussions and statistical estimates from published BJS reports.

Rachel and Jenna will present on the methodology and cognitive testing procedures that resulted in the addition of these measures to the National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS). They will also discuss victimization and population estimates from the recent BJS report Violent Victimization by Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity, 2017-2020.

Michael will discuss SOGI measures included on the National Inmate Survey (NIS) and National Survey of Youth in Custody (NSYC), along with published statistical estimates.

Lauren will discuss the measurement of SOGI in the Survey of Prison Inmates (SPI) and will present SOGI estimates for prisoners as published in the BJS report Profile of Prison Inmates, 2016.

There will be a moderated Q&A following the presentations.
