Analyzing Data from the National Crime Victimization Survey: A Workshop for Data Users 2024

Event Dates
Pacific
Event Duration
4 hrs.
Location
American Society of Criminology Annual Meeting, San Francisco Marriott Marquis, San Francisco, CA 94103

The National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS) relies on a complicated survey instrument and complex sample design. The multiple data files and different sets of survey weights can initially be challenging to use. This in-person pre-conference workshop, led by BJS statisticians, will introduce data users to the types of information available through the NCVS, offer an overview of the survey structure and sample design, and provide hands-on training to assist in properly analyzing the NCVS public-use data.

Using SPSS, participants will learn how to replicate key estimates from the annual Criminal Victimization bulletin and available through the NCVS Dashboard (N-DASH). The workshop will provide information on analyzing the available NCVS core and supplement data files, and it will highlight various research questions the data can address.

Space is limited, and registration is required. Send your name, affiliation, and preferred email address to [email protected].
