Abstract

The survey gathered data from all 50 States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands as of December 31, 1992. Results revealed that most States have automated at least some records in either the criminal history record file or the master name index; 15 States have fully automated these records. The results also revealed the level of disposition reporting, the level of flagging of felony convictions, the timeliness of trial court disposition data, the participation in the Interstate Identification Index. Data were also provided regarding the criminal history record checks on potential firearm purchasers, the status of State criminal history record files, the completeness of arrest data in the State criminal history repository, the completeness and timeliness of disposition data in the State criminal history repository, methods of linking arrest and disposition data, data quality strategies, and audit activity.
