Selected findings cover the number of jails and jail inmates, jails under court order, inmate deaths, planned changes in jails, expenditures, jail employees, inmate programs, and juveniles. Summary tables by region and State address inmate population, jail capacity, and jails under court order; inmate population by detention status and average daily population; inmates held for Federal, State, and other local authorities; population movement; inmate deaths; and number of jails by detention authority and inmate sex. Other summary tables focus on number of confinement units, beds, and inmates by confinement unit use; planned changes in jails and cost; expenditures; and number and type of jail payroll and nonpayroll employees. Data pertaining to jail programs cover work release, weekend sentence, exercise activities, medical screening and physical exams, and medical personnel within the jail. Text tables contain statistics on juveniles.
