This solicitation seeks applicants to design and conduct a major survey to accompany the National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS). The focus of the work to be commissioned under this solicitation is to develop and test survey methods to provide sub-national estimates of victimization based on the survey responses.

The purpose of this award is to provide funding to administer the 2009 National Inmate Survey (NIS). The NIS is an Audio Computer-Assisted Self-Interview (ACASI) instrument administered to inmates in correctional facilities to measure the prevalence of sexual assault at the facility level.

The Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) is seeking applicants to administer the Survey of State Court Criminal Appeals (SSCCA). BJS awarded funds to design and develop a survey capable of obtaining statistical information on criminal appeals in state intermediate appellate courts and courts of last resort in 2008. The Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) is seeking proposals to administer the State Court Processing Statistics Project (SCPS) project. SCPS is a recurring data collection involving the compilation of felony cases processed in a sample of state courts in the nation's 75 most populous counties.

The Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) is seeking proposals to develop, design, and field test the Survey of State Court Criminal Appeals and to prepare an implementation plan for fielding the survey in 2009. The goal of the survey is to obtain information about the types of criminal cases appealed from state trial courts to state intermediate appellate courts and/or courts of last resort, the disposition of criminal appeals, appellate case processing time, and the impact of appellate litigation on trial court outcomes for criminal cases.

The U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) is pleased to announce that it is seeking applications from State and territorial Statistical Analysis Centers to receive funding under the 2007 State Justice Statistics (SJS) Program. BJS is specifically authorized by statute (42 U.S.C. 3732) to provide assistance in the development of State and local government justice information systems, and directed to give primary emphasis to the problems of State and local justice systems (42 U.S.C. 3731).

The purpose of this award is to provide funding to administer the 2008 Census of State and Local Law Enforcement Agencies (CSLLEA). This census will obtain information about the personnel and functions of State and local law enforcement agencies in the United States with a 2-page data collection form. A sample of agencies will receive a 4- page form, instead of the 2-page form, that will collect information related to recruitment, selection, hiring, and retention of sworn personnel.

The purpose of this award is to provide funding to administer the 2007 and 2008 Annual Surveys of Jails in Indian Country. The survey has two components: (1) the standard collection of information on inmate counts, movements, and facility operations and staff; and (2) an addendum to the survey on inmate health care and facility programs. Data are to be collected on medical assessments and mental health screening procedures. In addition, information on facility programs and services are measured, such as inmate work assignments, counseling, and education programs.

The purpose of this award is to provide funding to administer the 2007 Census of Public Defender Offices. This census will obtain information about the operations, workload, staff size, policies, and procedures of the approximately 1,400 offices that serve as public defenders across the Nation. A draft data collection instrument will be provided by BJS. The grantee will be expected to assemble a complete roster of and survey all state and local public defender offices. BJS anticipates making one award for a 24- month period under this solicitation.

The purpose of this award is to provide funding to administer the 2007 Law Enforcement Management and Administrative Statistics (LEMAS) Survey. This survey will obtain information about the personnel, operations, policies, and procedures of law enforcement agencies in the United States. Applicants are encouraged to review previous LEMAS surveys and related statistical reports from the LEMAS program, available on the BJS website at www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs. A draft data collection instrument and respondent list will be provided by BJS.

This survey will obtain information about the operations, workload, policies, and procedures of gang units in large law enforcement agencies (those having 100 or more officers). A draft data collection instrument and preliminary respondent list will be provided by BJS. BJS anticipates making one award for a 12- month period under this solicitation.
