This award will expand upon the NCVSP work already underway. The specific tasks to be covered under this award include: (1) administering the nonresponse follow up protocol established through the pilot test for all victim service providers included on
the project roster to obtain response rates greater than 80%, (2) tracking and maintaining survey paradata on number of contacts, mode of completion, time to completion, and overall response rates, (3) cleaning and processing the data; (4) conducting a nonresponse bias analysis and
producing a report describing the census :findings; (5) conducting post-stratification weighting and adjustments as needed; (6) developing a public-use data file and codebook containing necessary documentation and detailed variable information (e.g., variable labels, description of codes for missing data, valid ranges for each variable); (7) developing the NSVSP instrument for a follow-up survey; and (8) cognitively testing the NSVSP instrument with 30 VSPs.
The National Census of Victim Service Providers (NCVSP) and the National Survey of Victim Service Providers (NSVSP) are two surveys within BJSÂ’s Victim Services Research Program. This program of research aims to provide policymakers and the research community comprehensive information about what services are being provided to victims, who is being served, and what gaps in service delivery may exist. Extending upon work already underway, this award will provide supplemental funding to field the NCVSP with about 30,000 victim service providers, resulting in basic information about the size and scope of the victim services field that can be used to sample for future provider surveys. The specific tasks to be covered under this award include: (1) administering the nonresponse follow up protocol established through the pilot test for all victim service providers included on the project roster to obtain response rates greater than 80%, (2) tracking and maintaining survey paradata on number of contacts, mode of completion, time to completion, and overall response rates, (3) cleaning and processing the data; (4) conducting a nonresponse bias analysis and producing a report describing the findings; (5) conducting post-stratification weighting and adjustments as needed; (6) developing a public-use data file and codebook containing necessary documentation and detailed variable information; (7) developing the NSVSP instrument for a more detailed follow-up survey with victim service providers; and (8) cognitively testing the NSVSP instrument with 30 VSPs.
