Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $49,549)

The State Justice Statistics (SJS) Program is designed to maintain and enhance each State's capacity to address criminal justice issues through collection and analysis of data. The SJS Program provides support to each State to coordinate and conduct statistical activities within the State, conduct research to estimate impacts of legislative and policy changes, and serve as a liaison in assisting BJS to gather data from respondent agencies within their States.

The Mississippi Statistical Analysis Center (SAC), at the Department of Administration of the University of Mississippi, will utilize this award to conduct a statewide victimization survey. Presently, no government agency within the state conducts a victimization survey or gathers baseline data regarding those offenses that go unreported to the police or other responsible agencies/officials. Mississippi proposes the development and implementation of a survey designed to assess a variety of issues related to criminal victimization. NCA/NCF
