Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2007, $50,000)
The State Justice Statistics (SJS) Program is designed to maintain and enhance each State's capacity to address criminal justice issues through collection and analysis of data. The SJS Program provides support to each State to coordinate and conduct statistical activities within the State, conduct research to estimate impacts of legislative and policy changes, and serve as a liaison in assisting BJS to gather data from respondent agencies within their States.
Under this award, the Washington SAC will increase Web access to data by creating the Washington State Criminal Justice Atlas to identify areas of high and low incidence of event occurence including crime. Using data from the Washington Criminal Justice Data Book, a sixteen-year comprehensive database from multiple state-level criminal justice agencies, a geographic presentation of data will be available. County-level data will also be created for each year available. In addition, the SAC will collect data to evaluate the performance of the website.
