Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2007, $49,360)

The State Justice Statistics (SJS) Program is designed to maintain and enhance each State's capacity to address criminal justice issues through collection and analysis of data. The SJS Program provides support to each State to coordinate and conduct statistical activities within the State, conduct research to estimate impacts of legislative and policy changes, and serve as a liaison in assisting BJS to gather data from respondent agencies within their States.

The North Carolina Statistical Analysis Center will conduct the following activities: (1) study the effectiveness of alternatives to incarceration with an emphasis on assessing the impact of the State's pretrial services programs; (2) evaluate the State's gang intervention/prevention programs to examine the results these programs have had on local communities' gang problems; (3) continue updating and expanding the SAC website; and (4) attend and participate in the BJS/JRSA National Conference.
