Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2022, $761,830)

The District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) seeks to improve the quality, timeliness, and immediate accessibility of criminal history records and related information. Complete records require that data from all components of the criminal justice system, including law enforcement, prosecutors, courts, and corrections be integrated and linked. Funds will be used to digitize paper records used in background checks including AFIS gallery cards and firearm registration applications. Additionally, MPD would like to analyze, design, build and implement remedies to address the disposition rejection issue. By successfully addressing two primary issues (Automated dispositions rejected by CCH, and Unsearchable identifier FBI), MPD should be able to resolve 7,465 dispositions. MPD’s estimate is that this task may boost the disposition success rate to as high as 85 to 90 percent.
