BJS conducts the National Survey of Youth in Custody (NSYC) to provide national- and facility-level estimates of youth reporting sexual victimization in juvenile facilities as required by the Prison Rape Elimination Act of 2003 (PREA). NSYC results have shown a decrease over time in the percentage of youth reporting sexual victimization in the survey. This webinar provides background on BJS’s role in PREA and presents findings from the third NSYC on the overall prevalence of sexual victimization in youth facilities and victim, perpetrator, and incident characteristics.
