When not in the Acting Director role, Doris serves as Deputy Director of Statistical Planning, Policy, and Operations at the Bureau of Justice Statistics. She is responsible for planning, management, and budget; the Criminal Justice Data Improvement Program; the Publications and Dissemination Unit; and the Technology and Data Management Unit. She serves in dual capacity as Chief of the Publication and Dissemination Unit, responsible for the communication and dissemination of BJS statistics on crime, victims of crime, criminal offenders, and the operation of justice systems at all levels of government. Doris also has responsibility for the BJS website, as well as media and email requests for BJS data. She ensures the quality, availability, and objectivity of the data provided to the public in reports and on the website.

Doris joined BJS in 1995 as a statistician in the corrections statistics program, where she worked on the national inmate surveys, administrative data collection on state and federal prisoners, and individual-level data collection on admissions to state prisons and persons entering and exiting parole. She earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Talladega College (Alabama) and holds the Master of City and Regional Planning and a master’s degree in public administration from The Ohio State University (Columbus).
