National Crime Victimization Survey
The National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS) is the nation's primary source of information on criminal victimization. Each year, data is obtained from a nationally representative sample of about 240,000 interviews on criminal victimization, involving 160,000 unique persons in about 95,000 households.
Police-Public Contact Survey
Provides detailed information on the characteristics of persons who had some type of contact with police during the year, including those who contacted the police to report a crime or were pulled over in a traffic stop. The survey enables BJS to examine the perceptions of police behavior and response during these encounters.
