BJS is pleased to announce that it is seeking applications for an examination of the processing of petitions for Presidential Pardons. In the federal justice system, commutation of sentence and pardon are different forms of executive clemency, which is a broad term that applies to the President's constitutional power to exercise leniency toward persons who have committed federal crimes. The purpose of this program is to examine how petitions for pardon are adjudicated by the Justice Department's Office of the Pardon Attorney.

The main activities under this award include researching, developing, and maintaining a national roster (i.e., complete enumeration) of all publicly funded law enforcement agencies and conducting data collection.

BJS is seeking applications to assist in designing and implementing a new statistical series that integrates criminal, civil, and regulatory enforcement data to comprehensively describe the federal response to white collar violations. The project requires data collection on federal regulatory agency enforcement actions. Further, the project requires development of methods to integrate data from regulatory agencies with criminal and affirmative civil enforcement data that BJS receives from the Executive Office for U.S. Attorneys and the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts.

BJS is pleased to announce that it is seeking an applicant to provide project management and coordination, technological systems design, and implementation and technical assistance services in connection with the National Crime Statistics Exchange (NCS-X) Project. The NCS-X Project seeks to build an ongoing statistical collection from a nationally representative system of incident-level records on offenses known to law enforcement agencies. The sample-based system would leverage the capabilities of existing record management systems and automated information exchanges.

This program announcement describes the guidelines and requirements of the FY 2013 State Justice Statistics (SJS) Program for Statistical Analysis Centers (SACs). Since 1972, the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) and its predecessor agency, the National Criminal Justice Information and Statistics Service, have provided support to state and territorial governments to establish and operate SACs to collect, analyze, and report statistics on crime and justice to federal, state, and local levels of government and to share state-level information nationally.

The Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) is seeking proposals to design, develop, and conduct the 2011 National Survey of Indigent Defense Systems (NSIDS). NSIDS will collect statistics about the provision of indigent defense services in states and local jurisdictions in the United States. BJS anticipates making one award of up to $1.2 million for a 36-month period under this solicitation.
The funding of this project is subject to the availability of funds. BJS is authorized to issue this solicitation under the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968, Section 302.

The Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) seeks to establish a cooperative agreement with a vendor to create a database that captures a wide range of identifying geographic, descriptive and statistical data on the universe of state and local law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve. This file will enhance BJS' and other researchers' capabilities to perform agency-level analyses (e.g., the annual allocation calculations for the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program). The purpose of this award is to provide funding through a cooperative agreement to administer annually the Survey of Jails in Indian Country (SJIC) data collection and analysis activities for four iterations of the survey: 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015. The SJIC is used to describe changes in jail inmate populations in Indian country as well as facility operations and staffing in these jails.
