2007 and 2008 Annual Survey of Jails in Indian Country

The purpose of this award is to provide funding to administer the 2007 and 2008 Annual Surveys of Jails in Indian Country. The survey has two components: (1) the standard collection of information on inmate counts, movements, and facility operations and staff; and (2) an addendum to the survey on inmate health care and facility programs. Data are to be collected on medical assessments and mental health screening procedures. In addition, information on facility programs and services are measured, such as inmate work assignments, counseling, and education programs.

The Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) is the primary statistical data collection agency for the Department of Justice and the Nation's primary source for criminal justice statistics. BJS is responsible for the collection, analysis, publication, and dissemination of statistical information on crime, criminal offenders, victims of crime, and the operation of justice systems at all levels of government.

BJS FY 07 Tribal Criminal History Records

The Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) is providing this notice to announce the continuation of the criminal history record improvement program in Indian Country. The Tribal Criminal History Record Improvement Program (T-CHRIP) will provide support to Federally-recognized tribes and State criminal records repositories to promote participation in and improve data sharing between Tribal, State, and national criminal records systems.

BJS FY 07 2006 Survey of Public Defenders Offices

The purpose of this award is to provide funding to administer the 2007 Census of Public Defender Offices. This census will obtain information about the operations, workload, staff size, policies, and procedures of the approximately 1,400 offices that serve as public defenders across the Nation. A draft data collection instrument will be provided by BJS. The grantee will be expected to assemble a complete roster of and survey all state and local public defender offices. BJS anticipates making one award for a 24- month period under this solicitation.

BJS FY 07 2007 Law Enforcement Management and Administrative Statistics

The purpose of this award is to provide funding to administer the 2007 Law Enforcement Management and Administrative Statistics (LEMAS) Survey. This survey will obtain information about the personnel, operations, policies, and procedures of law enforcement agencies in the United States. Applicants are encouraged to review previous LEMAS surveys and related statistical reports from the LEMAS program, available on the BJS website at www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs. A draft data collection instrument and respondent list will be provided by BJS.

2006 Survey of Law Enforcement Gang Units

The purpose of this award is to provide funding to administer the 2006 Survey of Law Enforcement Gang Units. This survey will obtain information about the operations, workload, policies, and procedures of gang units in large law enforcement agencies (those having 100 or more officers). A draft data collection instrument and preliminary respondent list will be provided by BJS. BJS anticipates making one award for a 12- month period under this solicitation.
