The National Prison Rape Statistics Program (NPRSP), developed upon passage of the Prison Rape Elimination Act of 2003, entails the collection of both administrative and self report data on sexual violence from State and Federal prisons, locally operated jails, and public and private facilities for juvenile offenders in the nation. The National Inmate Survey (NIS) is one of the data collections developed under the NPRSP.

The National Pretrial Reporting Program (NPRP) series compiles information on criminal justice processing of persons charged with felony offenses in state courts, with particular attention to pretrial release and detention. The NPRP will leverage improvements in court and justice agency computerized case management systems to collect the data. BJS would also like to collect data that is nationally representative rather than using the historical largest urban areas model.

This program seeks to conduct the 2024 Census of Tribal Law Enforcement Agencies (CTLEA 24) and 2024 Census of Tribal Court Systems (CTCS 24). The CTLEA 24 collects data on tribal law enforcement agencies, including jurisdiction, staffing, budget, calls for service and arrests, agency functions, and officer training and duties. The CTCS 24 collects data on tribal courts, including jurisdiction, staffing, budget, types of courts and caseloads, prosecutors and public defenders, and programs or services.

This program seeks support to conduct the 2023 Census of Medical Examiner and Coroner Offices (CMEC). This will be the third census BJS has conducted on this topic and follows the 2018 CMEC. The goal of this data collection is to obtain updated information about the operations, workload, staffing, training, policies and procedures of all publicly funded medical examiner and coroner (ME C) offices responsible for providing medicolegal death investigation (MDI).

The Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) is seeking applications for funding for collecting data on the impact of the COVID 19 pandemic on U.S. jails from about 900 jails. The award recipient will implement a COVID 19 module as part of the Annual Survey of Jails collection for reference years 2020 and 2021. For each of the two data collection cycles, the recipient will program an online survey of six COVID 19 related items, conduct data collection and data quality follow up activities, process raw data, and deliver a final dataset to BJS.

The Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) is seeking applications for funding for the Local Jail Reporting Program Pilot Test (LJRP Pilot) 2021. The award recipient will work with BJS over a period of 3 years to recruit 10 jails to provide individual level administrative record data to BJS for research purposes. The pilot data collection will provide information on jail admissions and releases, demographic characteristics of inmates, charges and dispositions, and sentences, with a particular focus on pre trial release and detention.

The NICS Improvement Amendments Act of 2007 (Pub. L. 110 180), codified at 34 U.S.C. 40912 (NIAA), was signed into law on January 8, 2008, in the wake of the April 2007 shooting tragedy at Virginia Tech. The Virginia Tech shooter was able to purchase firearms from a Federal Firearms Licensee (FFL) because information about his prohibiting mental health history was not available to the NICS, and the system was therefore unable to deny the transfer of the firearms used in the shootings.

Overview BJS has conducted four waves of data collection with law enforcement training academies and will update that collection with this solicitation. The Census of Law Enforcement Training Academies (CLETA) will provide accurate and timely national statistics about their recruits, curricula, staff, and resources. This 36 month program includes (1) questionnaire development, (2) frame development, (3) fielding the CLETA in 2023 and (4) data cleaning, analysis, and delivery of raw and final datasets.

This solicitation describes the guidelines and requirements of the fiscal year (FY) 2021 State Justice Statistics (SJS) Program for Statistical Analysis Centers (SACs). Since 1972, BJS and its predecessor agency, the National Criminal Justice Information and Statistics Service, have provided funding to state and territorial governments to establish and operate SACs to collect, analyze, and report statistics on crime and justice to federal, state, and local levels of government and to share state level information nationally.

The National Pretrial Reporting Program (NPRP, renamed State Court Processing Statistics) series compiles information on criminal justice processing of persons charged with felony offenses in state courts, with particular attention to pretrial release and detention. NPRP was historically collected prospectively, following case filings for twenty four (homicides) or twelve months (all other cases). Data were collected from courts and criminal justice agencies in 40 of the 75 largest urban counties.

The Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) is seeking an agent to support the continuation of the National Victimization Statistical Support Program (NVSSP). The NVSSP is designed as a flexible vehicle for providing scientific and technical support for statistical and methodological research, statistical analyses, documentation, and dissemination related to BJS work on crime and victimization. This vehicle is critical to provide methodological and statistical expertise that complements and supplements the current BJS staffing structure.

The Criminal Cases in State Courts (CCSC) was originally solicited as the Analysis of Publicly Available Data (APACD) in FY2018 to collect case level state court data using a variety of methods. During the project, BJS and the project team determined a larger sample size was necessary to generate nationally representative statistics. Additionally, BJS and the project team restricted the data collection methodology to include only data extracts, both of which drove up the cost of data collection.

The National Crime Statistics Exchange (NCS-X) Initiative is part of a national movement to expand the number of law enforcement (LE) agencies reporting incident-based crime data to the FBIâs National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS). NCS-X seeks to transition a select sample of 400 LE agencies from across the country, including all of the largest agencies, to NIBRS, in order to use NIBRS data to generate national crime statistics.
